The white tiger that gravely injured Roy Horn, the latter half of illusionist duo Siegfried and Roy, on a Las Vegas stage more than a decade ago has died. The 17-year-old animal suffered a “short illness,” though no further details were provided.
Siegfried and Roy released a statement late Tuesday stating the tiger, Mantecore, died March 19. He was at the low end of a captive tiger’s life-span range of 15 to 25 years.

Mantecore, then 7, bit Horn on the neck during a live performance at the Mirage in 2003, an unprovoked attack that left the illusionist clinging to life and eventually put him in rehab for months.
