On first glance, artist Diane Meyer’s beautiful photography series is simple. That is, until you notice the delicate, hand-sewn pixels that make her work special.
In Meyer’s “Berlin” series, the artist sews color-coordinated pixels onto images of buildings in the German capital. She told Mashable that the embroideries follow the path of where the Berlin Wall once stood
“In some images, the placement of the stitching is very literal and recreates the Wall in size, scale and location as closely as possible,” she said.
“The sewing, which is soft and domestic, provides a literal contrast to the concrete of the wall and its symbolism,” she continued. “In other images, the stitching is less literal and more suggestive of the separation of the space.” Read more…
