A strong magnitude 7.8 aftershock struck Chile’s northern coast Wednesday night, just one day after it was hit by a massive magnitude 8.2 earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey
The aftershock’s epicenter was 14 miles south of Chile’s northern coastal town of Iquique, the USGS said. Tuesday’s earthquake was under the sea floor around 62 miles northwest of Iquique, and resulted in six deaths. While the aftershock shook buildings in the port of Iquique, there were no reports of further damage or injuries, according to the Associated Press.
