Spotify slashed the price for a premium account from $9.99 to $4.99 for U.S. college students on Tuesday. The discount will likely provide a solid spike to Spotify’s user headcount, which at last count tallied 24 million monthly active users and 6 million paying subscribers.
The advertising-free subscription allows students to access its library of more than 20 million songs online or offline on mobile, tablet, desktop and home entertainment systems.
The deal applies only to students currently enrolled at a U.S. accredited institution, and Spotify will confirm eligibility using an applicant’s name, college name and date of birth. Read more…
