At a time when online streaming is more commonplace than ever, 2013 was a great reminder that there’s still something to be said for going to see a film in theaters.
Gravity held audiences breathless, shattering box office records along the way, and fans lined up for Hunger Games: Catching Fire with such fervor that it stole the Thanksgiving weekend box office record from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Films such as 12 Years a Slave and Fruitvale Station handled difficult subject matters with grace, and animated hits Despicable Me 2 and Frozen provided laughter and delight for audiences of all ages.
