Opposition Journalist Badly Beaten in Ukraine as Protests Surge

The assault of a prominent Ukranian journalist that had been highly critical of government officials has triggered a fresh round of protests in the country and across social media

Tetyana Chornovol was accosted while driving by a group of men who beat her, according to the Kyiv Post. She was reportedly hospitalized for her injuries after being found lying bruised in a ditch. Chornovol has reported on government corruption and been a public speaker at various Ukranian protests, collectively known as EuroMaidan.

News of the beating flooded social media and triggered fresh protests, including many people holding up pictures of a heavily-bruised Chonovol (pictured above). The latest report from the Kyiv Post said that two men had been arrested in connection with the assault, although no information was available about the suspects’ affiliation. Read more…
