Today’s Google Doodle is an animated tribute to computer scientist and United States Navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, who was born on Dec. 9, 1906 in New York City

Hopper is best known for being one of the designers of COBOL, one of the first modern programming languages, which was created in 1959 during the Conference on Data Systems Languages

COBOL is still in use today, especially by government and military agencies as well as banks
