On this date in 1983, Trey Anastasio got together with some friends and formed a little band called Phish.
The band is often thought of as a modern-day Grateful Dead due to its penchant for impressively long shows that feature extended passages of improvised jamming and its cult-like following of fans who travel around the country to follow the band on tour
