Graphic designer and animation director Rex Crowle describes his office as “a fire hazard.” Currently, the desks at UK-based game-development studio Media Molecule are covered with an unlikely tool in the digital age: folded and scrunched pieces of paper.
“I wish you can see this desk I’m at now, but you can hear it when I move my arms,” Crowle said over the phone, as papers rustle in the background. “There is a tremendous amount of paper here.”
Sometimes, you have to get really crafty to make a video game. When the team at Media Molecule began designing the world of Tearaway, a game set entirely in a land of crisp, foldable paper, they realized that some things had to be done the old-fashioned way. Read more…
