Google Street View Puts You on a Gondola Ride Through Venice

There’s nothing quite like floating down the narrow, romantic canals of Venice, but if you’re not planning to visit the watery city, Google can now take you there right from your computer.

The Google Street View team has rolled out an extensive look at the picturesque Italian town, allowing you to virtually visit city landmarks such as Piazza San Marco and St. Marks’ Cathedral, or more hidden spots like the Synagogue of the first Jewish Ghetto and the Devil’s Bridge in Torcello island. The images were captured via Google’s Trekker and Trike equipment

“We chose Venice because it’s the perfect place to demonstrate why the Street View platforms have evolved from the SV car and the Trike (3-wheel pedicab) to the Snowmobile for the ski slopes and now the Trekker,” a Google spokesperson told Mashable Read more…
