FDA Halts Sales At Gene-Scanning Firm 23andMe

The Food and Drug Administration ordered Google-backed DNA testing service 23andMe to halt its genetic-scanning services until it can prove to the agency that its gene tests are accurate, the New York Times reports.

23andMe’s “personal genome service” purports to tell users whether they might be susceptible to diseases such as various types of cancer or how their body might respond to a particular drug. The FDA argues that the company hasn’t yet “analytically or clinically validated” its service for its intended uses.
