Move over, Hunger Games — Divergent could be the next dystopian blockbuster.
Based on the first book in Veronica Roth’s popular young adult trilogy, Divergent takes place in a world where 16-year-olds must decide in which of five factions they belong, whether it’s the faction they were born into or not. For the film’s protagonist, Tris, the faction test reveals she is someone who can’t be categorized, someone who is divergent.
Divergent’s Tris is played by Shailene Woodley, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in 2011’s The Descendants, but might still be most recognized for her five-season run as a teen mom on ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Other familiar faces that pop up in the trailer include Ashley Judd as Tris’ mother and Kate Winslet as government worker Jeanine Matthews. Read more…
