Big money continues to flow into the Internet of Things space

August, a San Francisco startup that is developing a smart lock which users can open with their smartphones, announced Tuesday that it has raised $8 million in Series A funding from Maveron, Rho Ventures, SoftTech VC and others. The funding is in addition to $2 million in seed funding raised prior to its launch in May, and is intended to help the startup bring the lock to market next year.

“With distribution of our smart lock on the horizon, we will leverage this financing and our new partners to perfect the August consumer experience and scale our operations in advance of shipping,” Jason Johnson, August’s cofounder and CEO, said in a statement. Read more…
