The United States Capitol was on lockdown Thursday afternoon after gunfire rang out near the building.
Multiple news outlets reported the lockdown, while eyewitnesses began documenting the incident on Twitter around 2:30 p.m. ET. Chris Moody, a political reporter for Yahoo, was at the scene of the shooting and tweeted his experience

I asked Capitol policeman if that was shots. He said “Yeah” and told me to go underground if I could.
