The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced new generic top-level domain (TLD) names on Wednesday, and for the first time, there are options not in Latin characters
Joining the ranks of 22 existing domain names — including .com, .net and .org — are four new variations that can appear at the end of a web address.
The latest additions are شب 3;ة, which is Arabic for “web/network”; онлайн, Russian for “online”; сайт, Russian for “site”; and 游戏, Chinese for “game(s).”
The move is a part of an effort to give organizations more ways to communicate with their audiences. Those selected undergo an intense evaluation process and technical preparations with site security being a main focus. Read more…
