Scott Carpenter, the astronaut who uttered the historic “Godspeed” sendoff to John Glenn, died on Thursday at 88. He was one of the last surviving members of the original Mercury 7 mission. Glenn is the only member who is still alive from that mission
On May 24, 1962, Carpenter was the second American to orbit Earth after he piloted the Aurora capsule
