More than 18 months after Ofcom first unveiled plans to make it easier for UK broadband and landline users to switch providers, the UK’s communications’ regulator is still urging companies to remove any further barriers.

Speaking at an Ofcom-hosted event earlier today, Ed Richards, Chief Executive of Ofcom, said the industry needed to: “…transform switching; to remove the inconvenience, delays and uncertainty that currently can bedevil consumers when trying to change their provider.”

Ofcom announced new measures back in August, designed to help the public switch broadband/landline providers with less hassle. In short, the provider that’s gaining the customer should now lead the entire transfer on behalf of the user, much like what happens in banking. But Richards merely called this a “step in the right direction,” adding that they should go much further, such as looking at issues for consumers switching between bundles.
