Court Procedure Delays YouTube Confessor’s Guilty Plea

Matthew Cordle has not — at least for the time being — kept the promise he made in a now-viral video confession in which he said he’d plead guilty. The 22-year-old pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in an Ohio court room Wednesday afternoon.

While many have been quick to question Cordle’s sincerity, his supporters and the prosecution said Cordle is simply following standard operating procedure.

“This is not unusual,” Franklin County assistant prosecutor Keith McGrath told Mashable. “Every person that came through that arraignment court entered a not guilty plea. It’s how you get assigned to a random judge here in Franklin County. You have to enter that not guilty plea first.” Read more…
