We first brought you news on HotelTonight back in early 2011, an app which lets you book same-day hotel rooms for up to 70% less in more than thirty cities across the US, including New York, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago and Washington DC.

Then in March this year, the service finally landed on iPad before the startup went international by launching in Vancouver and Toronto in April.

Now, HotelTonight is making the move overseas by launching in London, bringing on board former Jetsetter Vice President Heather Leisman to oversee European operations.

HotelTonight is now available on iPhone/iPod Touch, iPad and Android in the United Kingdom, though the service will be launching initially with a selection of hotels in London only.

Unlike most other hotel booking service, HotelTonight differentiaties itself in that it curates the hotels included. It has a team of people who check out the hotel in advance to ensure a certain level of quality. At launch, HotelTonight will include Belgraves – a Thompson Hotel, Blakes Hotel, St. Martins Lane, The Langham, and The Cadogan.

HotelTonight specifcally targets hotels to help them shift unfilled rooms at the last minute, and ‘same day’ means any time up to 2am.

On top of its London expansion, HotelTonight has also today opened its London-based office in Shoreditch as it looks to expand globally and reach new users worldwide. In fact, HotelTonight plans to launch in additional cities in the United Kingdom and other markets in Western Europe in the coming months.

HotelTonight recently secured a $23 million Series C investment, led by US Venture Partners with continued participation from Accel Partners, Battery Ventures and First Round Capital.
