AT&T today announced a new, cloud-based Content Delivery Network (CDN) platform.
Through their Digital Media Solutions division, AT&T will enable content to flow directly from its 38 data centers around the world, to reduce transit and latency times. The new service is now being offered to customers on a limited basis, and is expected to be generally available by the end of 3Q 2011. Pricing was not announced, although is fairly customized and fees are charged on specific amounts of content on a pay-per-use model.
“More and more businesses are relying on video, pictures and animation to get consumers excited about their products and services,” said Sam Farraj, Assistant Vice President of AT&T Digital Media Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. “Our CDN technology not only delivers videos and other attention grabbers at ‘lightning like’ speed, but it delivers them efficiently and at low cost.”
According to the company, the new CDN will deliver a set of sophisticated analytics and tools designed to help companies understand what their Web audiences are looking for in an online retail or service experience.
