Jive Software, the company that has been one of the leaders in collaboration software, has acquired OffiSync, the company that makes social media add-ons to Microsoft Outlook. You gotta love a company that starts out its corporate overview by saying “old business processes and technologies suck” right on its website.
The idea is that you never need to leave Outlook to perform common tasks such as searching for a document, tagging it, putting some comments on it and then having it viewed by your work team for the next round of revisions. Here is an video explaining the new features.
The service lets you collaborate on any Office documents, Google Docs-style, and effectively bridges Google and Microsoft’s office solutions, both on desktop and Web.
Jive now competes squarely with companies like SocialText that offer socialized e-mail and collaboration medicine.
