37Signals, the company behind Backpack, Basecamp and Campfire, announced this morning that it was putting Sortfolio, its visual directory of Web designers, on the auction room floor.
Sortfolio has been around since 2009 as a part of the 37Signals offerings – and according to the team there, it’s been doing quite well – but it’s time for it to move on so it can "get the attention that it deserves."
Sortfolio helps those in need of a Web designer search through designers sorted by location and price, with visual examples as the center of the designer’s profile.
The blog post announcing the sale almost sounds like an ad putting your dog up for adoption, as 37Signals says it is "looking to sell it to a company that can give it the love and attention it deserves." So, how good is that puppy? Does it chew on your furniture and pee on the carpet?
According to the posting, "Sortfolio has been holding steady between $17,000-$20,000/month for quite some time now. Paying customers are billed $99/monthly. They can cancel at any time. Free listings are available for all. Currently there are just under 10,000 total accounts, 195 of those are Pro accounts. We’re sure a dedicated sales person could upsell quite a few people."
So, if you’re in the market for a Web designer directory, just make an offer (no equity, just straight up cash, by the way) to jason@37signals and get you some.
