This weekend, I’ll be presenting on “Web Design that Sells” at Ken McCarthy’s System Seminar in New York.
Here’s a video of Ken speaking about the possibilities of the Internet – back in 2004!! He knew exactly what he was talking about then, and he has his finger right on the pulse today. I think the System is still the best place to go to find out what’s really important to market your business or make money online.
This year, one of the areas we’re focusing on is Conversion, which is why Ken invited me to open Day 2 of the System Seminar. I am very excited to be going again. If you’re there, please say hi.
Here’s how Ken tells the story behind “Convert!” (Original source)
I’ve only written two books and both were compilations of articles I wrote organized by someone
else, so I really admire anyone who can sit down and write what I call a REAL book.I especially admire people who can navigate the maze of getting a book published by a major publisher.
I’m all for eBooks and self-published books, but there’s something about the imprint of a “real world” publisher that’s hard to beat.
System grads get published
Since I started the System Seminar in 2002, many of my grads have gotten their books published by major publishers and amazingly three have been published on the subject of Internet or electronic marketing
They’re all very good books and have been recognized as “best of breed” in their particular niche.
To me nothing demonstrates better what the System is all about: The information we’ve shared over the years is so good that even our students become recognized as world-leading experts after taking our trainings.
AdWords for Dummies – Howie Jacobson (great intro to pay-per-click advertising and direct marketing)
Mobile Marketing Handbook – Kim Dushinski (best book on mobile marketing)
Convert! Designing Web Sites to Increase Traffic and Conversion – Ben Hunt (first book to explain how to design web sites for maximum measurable response)
The Ben Hunt story
In the case of the first two books, our students were doing something else before they discovered the System and the direct marketing approach to Internet marketing that we’ve been pioneering since 1994.
Ben’s story is a little different.
He’s been a web site designed since 1994 himself which makes him a super-veteran by any standard.
Before “Convert!”, he self-published “Save the Pixel” which has become a guidebook to thousands of web designers all over the world. What makes Ben’s story so unique is this: In 2008, we invited him to speak on web design at one of our seminars in London. Ben not only spoke, he stayed for the entire training and took notes. It was his first exposure to the System and to our method of marketing.
The courage – and integrity – to go back to zero
Ben was so blown away by what he learned it caused him to re-think his entire approach to web design from scratch.
Think about that for a second.
Here’s a guy who was already at the top of his field with 14 years of successful experience under his belt. How many professionals – in any field – are willing to start all over and re-learn their business from scratch.
It takes a lot of guts and backbone to take this path and we should all be very glad he did. Ben’s book is a massive contribution to Internet marketing education, quite possibly one of the biggest ones ever.
Ben will be speaking at System 2011
Ben will be coming all the way from London to America to speak at System 2011.
Unfortunately, System 2011 – our last big System Seminar ever – is sold out.
We are taking names for the waiting list in case there are last minute drop outs and we’re also take pre-publication offers at a very special rate for people who order the DVD/CDs of the seminar before April 15.
Best,
