Apple has announced it will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) June 6-10 at Moscone West in San Francisco. During the five-day event, Apple will introduce the next versions of both its desktop and mobile operating systems, Mac OS and iOS, respectively. It will also offer app demonstrations and over 100 technical sessions intended for mobile developers.

The sessions will be led by Apple engineers and will offer code-level assistance, insight into optimal development techniques and guidance on making the most of their apps, says the company in its press release, out this morning.
In addition, Apple will host its Design Awards, which will recognize iPhone, iPad and Mac apps that it feels highlights both outstanding design and innovation.
There’s no word yet on what we can expect to see in either Mac OS or iOS, but there have been plenty of rumors. In particular, recent reports from TechCrunch have noted that iOS may only be previewed at WWDC, but won’t arrive on devices until later this fall. The holdup, apparently, has to do with Apple’s move to the “cloud.” Specifically, Apple’s music locker service will be detailed, which would allow customers to stream their tracks over the network, as opposed to having the tunes stored on their device itself.
Separately, a report on Business Insider (via The Music Void) notes that, in addition to the music locker, Apple’s MobileMe suite of cloud-backed services would be lowered to just $20 per year.
Earlier this year, we made some guesses about what the next iPhone could hold, based on recent Apple acquisitions and news. This included thoughts on its support for NFC, cloud-based music (as noted above), facial recognition and advanced artificial intelligence. Regardless of which rumors pan out to be true, we’re sure Apple will surprise us with whatever it chooses to reveal.
