Are Your Files Backed Up? March 31 is World Backup Day

world-backup-day-logo.pngIt’s March 31, 2011. Do you know where your company’s mission-critical data backups are? They, of course, should be safely stored someplace where you can access them easily should anything happen to your machine or network. More importantly, they should be up to date.

Far too many individuals and businesses are lax about keeping their data backed up on a regular basis. That’s why a group of Reddit users decided to propose the first-ever World Backup Day to take place tomorrow, March 31.

Timed to “pre-empt” April Fool’s Day (“Don’t be an April fool,” warns the site), World Backup Day was founded to create awareness about data security, encourage users to back data up and show them how to do it. The thread on Reddit that conceived this geeky holiday is loaded with great advice about backing up one’s data safely and securely.

“Once a year is not frequent enough for backing up data,” concedes a statement on the official Website. “World Backup Day was created to spread awareness and to get those who have never backed up data to start.”

Promotional partners for World Backup Day include online backup services SpiderOak and Backblaze, both of whom are offering discounts on their services in honor of the special occasion.
