Mobile ad network inMobi has just released a new report summarizing data from its global network of 102 countries, where 24.1 billion ads were served during the month of October. According to its report, smartphone impressions are now the majority (56%) of mobile ads in the United States. inMobi says that it has increased its ad impressions by 600 million monthly (+25%) in the past 90 days, thanks to a huge (57%) increase in smartphone inventory.
Android Gaining, Now Number Two
inMobi also found that smartphone share gains were primarily driven by Android phones, whose market share climbed up to 19.2%, a close second to iOS’s 24.6%.
In addition to Android’s rise, modest gains were posted by both RIM and Symbian OS, inMobi found. This led to Apple’s iOS share dropping -2.9 points over the past 90 days. inMobi says the iPhone’s “pending availability on Verizon” will help Apple in facing this increased competition. (We love how the Verizon iPhone is a given now, despite no official confirmation from Apple that one even exists. Who else is excited for CES this year?)
Apple #1 in Ad Impressions
Despite the market share gains from Android and others, the iPhone is still the leader among ad impressions. 21.9% of all U.S. impressions are on iPhone. The rest of the platforms’ shares can be seen on the chart below:
Apple is also the leading manufacturer in the mobile ad ecosystem (in the U.S.), based on this data, with a 25% share. Samsung is in second place, with 21%. (Looks like those Galaxy S devices are doing well). Motorola is third (14%).
