Cloud Sherpas has made a business of migrating and servicing Google Apps customers. It has migrated 600,000 users from platforms such as Lotus Notes and Sharepoint.
Cloud Sherpas also offers Sherpa Tools, administrative services for the Google Apps platform and available in the Google Apps Marketplace.
To extend its offerings, Cloud Sherpas has received an additional $1.6 million in funding. The round was led by Syncarpha Capital, Vento Security Holdings and Hallett Capital. The company has received a total of $3 million in venture capital.
The funding will be used to continue migrating customers from particular vertical markets such as retail, manufacturing and government. It will also be used to further develop its administrative tools in the Google Apps Marketplace.
Sherpa Tools is top rated in the marketplace. It is a management console for Google Apps. The services include the ability to view a company’s user directory, groups and shared contacts. It also offers premium services such as Directory Manager, which provides end-users with an automated Google Talk IM agent that answers questions. For example, ask for the name of someone and it will surface the complete record from the directory.
Google Apps has its own admin console but a number of companies are filling in the gaps to provide people with an enhanced level of service. Promeveo, SADA, LTech and a host of others provide administration tools for Google Apps.
The premium tools are available to customers that use Cloud Sherpas to migrate to Google Apps. It’s not available in the Google Apps Marketplace.
That’s in part due to the lack of a transaction environment in Google Apps Marketplace. Google said at the Google Apps Marketplace launch last spring that it would add a billing system by the end of the year.
