API of the Week: MailChimp

Mailchimp logo Last week e-mail newsletter company MailChimp announced on its blog that it’s launching a $1 million MailChimp Integration Fund to help startups pay for MailChimp API projects. According to the company, no equity is involved – MailChimp just wants to build out the ecosystem. This seems like an exciting way for developers to get paid to work to build out new features for projects.

Ben Kepes wrote in a blog post about the move:

I’ve long said that the value of SaaS for SMB end users lies, to a great extent, in the ability to tie together discreet applications. Obviously the ability to do so is dependent on the existence of good APIs on both sides of the integration exercise.
