It used to be that there was not much to talk about when it came to content management.
How times have changed. The advent of modern Web apps, social network and changing demographics are just a few of the factors that are causing disruptions that are changing the nature of the stodgiest of applications.
Alfresco Software Chairman John Newton is pounding on this theme. He does not talk about disruption but he does see a change to what he calls a system of engagement.
Newton makes several observations in our interview we did with him today at the company’s developer conference.
Here are some of the highlights of our discussion:
- We are at the beginning of a new wave that requires a focus on apps, platforms and open standards.
- Demographics are driving change.
- New focus is on systems of engagement.
- Web-based apps are a model for developing content management systems.
- Big data means immediate awareness and even the ability to make market predictions.
- Social content management is representative of a new wave in the enterprise.
Content is core to the enterprise. The forces affecting the way we view it is rooted in a demographic shift that will require new systems of engagement that we are only beginning to understand.
