When I was a kid, Christmas Eve was the most excruciating night of the year. I couldn’t sleep and I couldn’t think about anything else besides what would be waiting for me under a tree the next morning (it was usually something in the Star Wars, G.I. Joe or Transformers universe). Now, at the youthful age of 35, my Peter Pan complex is rarely as strong as when Apple sets a date to announce a new product. Bang ‘a Rang!
Tomorrow, Apple is at it again. Their event, titled “Back to the Mac,” has been rumored to cover a number of tantalizing things. While the tech press is notorious for not even coming close to predicting Apple’s product announcements correctly, that doesn’t stop us from trying!
The rumors include:
11-inch Macbook Air
Facetime for OS X
A new version of OS X called Lion.
Jet Packs!
While an 11-inch version of the MacBook Air may be the most exciting of the rumors (especially from a price perspective), yesterday’s evisceration of 7-inch tablets by Steve Jobs during Apple’s earning call makes one think Apple may never venture below the 9.7 inch mark for anything other than the iPhone and iPod line. That said, I hope I’m wrong, because speaking as a new iPad owner who can do a lot but not everything on the device, Apple has an opportunity to fill a void and capture those consumers who are dying to add a sub-$1,000 Apple laptop to their computing arsenal.
What do you think Apple will announce tomorrow? Let your predictions be known in the comments.
