First the bad news: Average airfares are higher in U.S. states with lower median household incomes.
That’s according to a report from travel site Hopper, which found that the state you fly from can affect the cost of a round-trip airline ticket by as much as $150.
In states with higher median incomes, average airfares tend to be cheaper. Every additional $1,000 in median household income decreases round-trip fares by $2.30, according to the report.
The most expensive states to fly from, according to Hopper, are Alaska, Hawaii and Wyoming, where round-trip tickets averaged $567, $526 and $429, respectively. The lowest airfares were from airports in Delaware, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, with average prices of $261, $274 and $275, respectively. Read more…
