The Winter Olympics has been flushed with both overwhelming triumph and devastating loss. Canada beat out Great Britain for the top spot in men’s curling while Sweden triumphed over China for the bronze. The Great White North also rose to the occasion in the women’s freestyle ski cross in which Canadians Marielle Thompson and Kelsey Serwa took the gold and silver, respectively, while Sweden’s Anna Holmlund came in third.

The U.S. was looking for a win after the women’s hockey team’s quest for gold ended in defeat Thursday with a 3-2 loss to Canada, but the men’s team suffered its own failure Friday when when it lost to Canada 1-0 in the men’s ice hockey semifinals.
