Sochi may be so warm right now that some athletes are competing in shorts, but that didn’t stop world-class competitors from fighting their way to the top of the Olympic podium.
The American men’s ice hockey team narrowly beat its long-time Russian rivals 3-2 Saturday in a shootout during the preliminary round of the men’s ice hockey Group A game. Olympians also competed in curling, ski jumping and speed skating, among other events on day eight of the Sochi games.
Other noteworthy moments include a narrow gold-medal win for Poland’s Zbigniew Brodka in men’s speed skating, Germany’s near-miss for the top spot in the women’s alpine skiing super-g and a heartbreaking start for John Daly of the United States in men’s skeleton. Read more…
