Christmas Day 2013 has come and gone, and it looks like Santa might not have brought everyone exactly what they wanted. At least, that seems to be the case according to the number of tech listings on eBay.co.uk in the last 24 hours.
According to data sent to The Next Web today by eBay UK, the company expects more than 100,000 consumer items to be listed (globally) as people try to reclaim some of the value of their unwanted gifts. In total, listings for tablets and computers shot up by 25 percent yesterday, and toys saw an increase of 8 percent.
Among the tech items, eBay said that iPad Air listings outnumbered iPad Mini by four-to-one and that in the last 24 hours more than 1,000 iPads had been listed. There were also about the same number of iPods listed in the same time frame.
While Apple’s products have been seen as the de-facto desirable gift for quite some time now, it actually seems that UK dwellers that received Android tablets for Christmas are happier to hang on to their new presents – only around 200 newly listed devices have been added to the site in the last day.
Of course, with the lower average selling price of an Android tablet, it could just be that people see less of a financial incentive to sell their gift, or perhaps fewer were given as a gift in the first place.
If you do happen to be in the market for one of those unwanted iPads, many of the auction format sales offering them end on Saturday, so that’s when you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled.
It seems that smaller tech items, like the Nike Fuelband, were better received – there have been just five of these listed since yesterday.
