Anthony Weiner Says the Internet Spoiled His Mayoral Bid

In a recent GQ article, former U.S. congressman Anthony Weiner blames the Internet for his failed New York City mayoral bid. Writer Marshall Sella, who shadowed Weiner during his recent campaign, paints a colorful portrait of the man he calls “one of the final casualties in the moral war on sexting.”

“I have no desire to walk into a bar and pick up a woman. I love my wife,” Weiner told Sella“And maybe if the Internet didn’t exist? Like, if I was running in 1955? I’d probably get elected mayor.”

Weiner represented New York’s ninth district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999 until 2011, when he was forced to resign because of a highly publicized sexting scandal. His wife Huma Abedin, a political aide to Hillary Clinton, has received significant media attention for staying with Weiner throughout the ordeal.
