Acer Already Has a Second-Gen 8-Inch Windows Tablet, the Iconia W4

Acer just unveiled its second 8-inch Windows tablet, the Iconia W4. The new tablet succeeds the Iconia W3, the first small-screen Windows tablet, which debuted in the summer.

The big difference is the Iconia W4 will ship with Windows 8.1 instead of the special version of Windows 8 that was on the W3. Windows 8.1 has explicit support for small-screen form factors (under 10 inches), whereas Acer had to work closely with Microsoft to get Windows 8 to work properly on the previous tablet.

Like the W3, the Iconia W4 also packs an Intel processor, but this time it’s the latest Atom “Bay Trail” chip, which bestows better battery life and graphics than its predecessor (“Clover Trail”).
