BT has been courting UK networks recently as it looks to refresh its MVNO agreement used to underpin the delivery of its own mobile services, and it seems like EE will be victorious despite the British incumbent initially looking like it would favor O2.
EE and BT today announced that a deal had been struck, pending final contracts, for the company to use its 4G nationwide service to run BT’s own mobile network – which is currently only offered to businesses and its own employees.
While it’s not a consumer facing service as it stands today, a BT spokeswoman told TNW that the company continues to evaluate its role in the consumer market, but that for now it was planning to build on its ”strong WiFi presence”. That’s not to say BT would be incapable of re-entering the consumer market in the future, though.
